Charles Raymond “Ray” Colgan, age 78, a resident of Heritage Health in Springfield, Illinois and formerly of Versailles, Illinois passed away at 9:15 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at the nursing home.
He was born December 29, 1942 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Charles Edward and Dorothy Maxine Leezer Colgan. He married Judith L. Gilbert Huddleston in May of 1995 in Versailles, Illinois and she survives.
Ray was a longtime Brown County produce farmer, beekeeper and furrier.
He attended Brown County schools and graduated from Brown County High School. Ray then attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he studied forestry.
He was a member of the Illinois Beekeepers Association and always enjoyed attending fur trader conventions, fishing, deer hunting and searching for arrowheads on his farm.
Survivors include his wife Judith Colgan of Chatham, Illinois. 1 son Edmond Trent Huddleston (Dawn Marie) of Chatham, Illinois. 2 grandchildren Christian Acree (Giovanni) and Elijah Huddleston. 3 brothers John Colgan (Linda), Dan Colgan (Rose) and Ed Colgan. 3 sisters Dorothy Keylor (Zane), Pat Parker (David) and Mary Fiscus also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son David Colgan and 1 daughter Dawn Kanies.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021 in the Versailles West Side Cemetery with Rev. Dawn Huddleston officiating.
There will be no visitation.
