Rose Marie Brown Obituary

Rose Marie Brown, age 97, a resident of Liberty Village in Pittsfield, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 11:30 p.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at the nursing home.

She was born October 12, 1926 in Versailles, Illinois the daughter of Ivan Vertreese and Zoe Lela McCoy Noble.  

In 1943, Rose Marie was employed at Park Lane Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, where she received on the job training as a practical nurse.  She married Charles R. Brown on December 20, 1945 in St.  Louis, Missouri.  At that time they moved to Key West, Florida where they lived for many years.  

In more recent years, Rose Marie returned to St. Louis for employment.  She retired in January of 1991 and moved to Mt. Sterling.  

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling.  Through her earlier years she taught Sunday school and belonged to the Alabama Art Club, where she displayed and sold her paintings.  Rose Marie was a Red Cross volunteer for several years and truly enjoyed volunteering. 

Survivors include one son, Terry R. Brown of Cedaredge, Colorado.  Three grandchildren Bethany Bolton, Matthew Brown and Joel Brown.  Four great grandchildren Austin Brown, Aidin Brown, Andrew Vigil and Mariah Brown.  Two great great grandchildren Abriella Acevedo and Remington Vigil also survive along with several nieces and nephews including her loving care giver Betty Clayton (Gene) of Versailles, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter Erin Vigil, one brother Bill Noble and two sisters Eileen Martin and Juanita Harbour.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Dan Edwards officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery in Brown County. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. 

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling.
