Russell "Rusty" Armstrong Obituary

 

Russell William “Rusty” Armstrong, age 56, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Illinois. 

He was born November 22, 1965 in Rushville, Illinois the son of William J. and Grace Lavone Wilson Armstrong.  He married Mary Seckman on February 20, 1988 at the First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling and she survives. 

Rusty worked as a correctional officer for the Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mt. Sterling for several years. 

He graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1983.  

Mr. Armstrong served his country in the United States Army from 1983 until 1987. 

Rusty was a member of the First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling and always liked hunting and watching western’s on television, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandbabies. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Armstrong of Mt. Sterling.  2 children Jamie DeWitt (Brian) of Griggsville, Illinois and Terry Armstrong (Lindsay) of Quincy, Illinois.  4 grandchildren Lucas, Benjamin, Sissy Gwen and Owen.  2 brothers Gail Dunn of Meredosia and Roger Dunn of Oklahoma.  1 sister Cindy Dunn of Meredosia also survives along with several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Steve Surratt officiating. 

Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Hersman Cemetery.  A military service will be conducted at the graveside by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. 

There will be no visitation. 

Memorials are suggested to the family.
