Sandra K. “Sandy” Smith, age 83, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rushville, Illinois.
She was born October 28, 1939 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois the daughter of Dean Reid and Viola Mae Lepper Dunbar. She married Dwain Smith on September 18, 1960 at the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church and he survives.
Mrs. Smith worked as a Registered Nurse at Beardstown Hospital for over 23 years. She along with her husband also owned and operated Squeaky Kleen Car Wash in western Illinois.
Sandy attended Brown County Schools and graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1957, she then attended Blessing School of Nursing in Quincy and graduated in 1960.
Mrs. Smith was a devoted member of the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church and served the church in numerous capacities. Sandy always enjoyed traveling and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Dwain Smith of Mt. Sterling. 2 children Terri Houser (Doug) of Rushville and Gary Smith of Mapleton, Illinois. 1 sister Marilyn Alsup (Richard) of Versailles. 3 grandchildren Reid Houser (Katie) of Mt. Sterling, Renee Houser (Daniel Wiggins) of Quincy and Phillip Smith of Elmwood. 3 great grandchildren Jacie, Hallie and Maverick also survive along with 2 nephews Neal and Kevin Alsup.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 in the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church with Pastor Angel Rosales and Pastor Patty Johansen officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. A Nurse Honor Guard Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling First United Methodist Church.
