Sharon Zech

Sharon J. Zech, age 85, of Mt.Sterling, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at her residence.

She was born March 22, 1938 in Bloomington, Illinois the daughter of Ralph A. and Mabel Laura McWilliams Petty.  She married Charles E. “Bud” Zech on August 9, 1974 in Urbana, Illinois, and he survives. 

Mrs. Zech owned and operated a dance studio in Highland, Illinois for several years and later in life served as a receptionist at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.  

Sharon was a graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, Indiana and then received her bachelor’s degree from Butler University also in Indianapolis. 

Mrs. Zech was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling and she always enjoyed teaching Sunday School and helping make crafts for Vacation Bible School.  Sharon loved quilting, having made numerous quilts over the years and also enjoyed making stuffed animals, birdwatching, fishing and deer hunting with her husband.  

Survivors include her husband Charles E. “Bud” Zech of Mt. Sterling.  5 children Chuck Zech (Jane) of Ivesdale, Illinois, Wendy Garnant (Bill) of East Peoria, Illinois, Denise Rhoades (John) of Georgia, Jennifer Cline (Fred) of Danville, Indiana and Ted Zech of Champaign, Illinois.  1 sister Beverly Webber (Bob) of Zionsville, Indiana also survives along with 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, August 17, 2023 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Adam Veith officiating. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home. 

Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
