Sherwood Spears Surratt Age 83 of Mt. Sterling, Illinois (Formerly of Concord, Illinois) passed away at 7:02 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Sherwood was born December 12, 1937 in Sinclair, Illinois at home. Son of William O. Surratt Sr. & Elizabeth L. Spears Surratt. He married Dorothy Joan Bennett June 30, 1956 at the Concord Christian Church in Concord, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Mt. Sterling, Son Steven Alan Surratt (wife Lisa Diane Surratt) of Mt. Sterling, Grandson Aaron Troy Surratt (wife Kari Ann Surratt) of Urbana, Illinois and three Great Grandchildren Emily Jean, Sarah Ann, & David Lee Surratt also of Urbana. Two Brothers Herschel (Bernice) Surratt of Chapin and Ted Surratt of Pittsfield
Sherwood is preceded in death by his parents William O. & Elizabeth Surratt Sr., Grandson David William Surratt, and two brothers William O. Surratt Jr. & Richard Surratt.
He graduated Chapin High School in 1956. Sherwood was a member of the Concord Christian Church where he served on the Board, Church Building Committee, Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader. He later attended First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling where his son is the Pastor. He worked at Chapin Cylinder Head Co. for 36 years as a Shop Foreman, ASE Certified Engine Machinist and Manager. In 1991 received the inaugural award of 1st Perfect Circle Machinist of the year, this was a nationwide award. Sherwood served on the Concord Village board for 12 years
Hobbies included camping, motorsports, selling Watkins products and Two By Two Quartet groupie and motor home redesigner. Sherwood loved spending time with his Grandsons Aaron and David, then later the Great Grandchildren Emily, Sarah, & David. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 in the Concord Christian Church in Concord, Illinois with Rev. Matt Haberman and Rev. Francis Ater officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery near Arenzville, Illinois.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the First Christian Church in Mt. Sterling and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Concord Christian Church.
Social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are required for both the visitation and services.
