Thomas Gregory “Tom” Wagner, age 79, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 11:08 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, after a long battle with diabetes.
Tom was born November 16, 1941 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Ernest Theodore and Helen M. Barker Wagner. He married Della M. Buskirk on November 23, 1963 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.
Tom is survived by his wife Della and two daughters Lisa M. Krinninger (Michael) of Libertyville, Illinois and Lori A. Wagner of Springfield, Illinois. Four grandchildren Scott, Candice, Britt and Sam Krinninger. One sister Patricia A. Bruley of Macomb, Illinois and one sister-in-law E. Marie Smith also survive along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers-in-law Robert L. Buskirk, Donald Lee Buskirk, Robert L. Bruley and Jesse Smith Jr. and a sister-in-law Cynthia (Sailer) Buskirk.
Tom had worked various jobs since he was 16 years old. Later in life he worked for Dean Dunbar at the Shell Station and then bought the station and ran it for several years. Tom then served as Chief Deputy for the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and later worked as custodian for Farmers State Bank.
Tom truly enjoyed camping and loved taking his camper on the weekends with his family to various parks, including a trip to Colorado one year with some good friends. He also liked to spend time hunting, fishing and going to Cub games with his family.
Tom was very proud of his two daughters and grandkids and all they have accomplished.
Cremation will be accorded and due to the current covid restrictions a memorial visitation without the family present will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt.Sterling.
The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
