Virginia DeWitt Obituary

 

Virginia (Ginny) L. DeWitt, age 85, of Mt Sterling, died on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt Sterling, Illinois. She was born on December 16, 1935 in Buckhorn Township of Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Wilbur and Lola (Dobey) Rose. She married Robert DeWitt on June 27, 1954 and he preceded her in death on February 26, 2009.   She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother Wayne Rose. 

She is survived by three sisters Vera (Boots) Reathaford, Shirley Clark, Barb Garthaus and a sister-in-law Bertha Northup. Three children Randy DeWitt (Debra), Mike DeWitt (Vicki), Patty Duke (Mike). Twelve grandchildren Shawn DeWitt (Karey), Melissa DeWitt (Chris Baker), Ryan DeWitt (Kylie), Stephanie Schmidt, Lindsay Tobolik (Kyle), Michele Stritzel (Doug), Perry Wilkerson (Chelsea), Jessica Matthewson (Dave), Bobbi Jo Salmons (Jerry) Eric DeWitt (Emma), Makenzie Duke and Leslie Duke-Redyke (Ryan).  Twenty-five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Virginia worked in local restaurants, Dime Store, Grocery Store, Penny Store,Illinois Secretary of State, Helping Hand Cleaning Service and the Department of Children and Family Services. She was a lifetime member of the Mt. Sterling First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, serving as an Elder, Sunday School Leader, member of Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) and volunteer at the Brown County Food Basket.

Her Lord and Savior has called his angel home to fulfill his plan. She loved and enjoyed her family, winning when playing cards (Canasta) and dominos and sharing God’s word.

Virginia was a loving wife, best friend, mother, grandma, great grandma, great-great grandma, sister, aunt and cousin and will be remembered by many. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling, Illinois with Rev. Richard Young officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hersman Cemetery in Hersman, Illinois. 

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. 

The State of Illinois has mandated that those attending the services and visitation must wear a mask.

Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling First Christian Church, OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois or the Brown County Food Basket.
