Virginia Pulse Obituary

Virginia Carol “Virgie” Pulse, age 80, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at her residence.  

She was born November 29, 1939 in Knox City, Missouri the daughter of Harry and Mary Katherine Whitaker Harvey.  She married Bruce Herbert Pulse on August 4, 1957 in Beardstown, Illinois and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1979. 

Mrs. Pulse worked as a CNA for Modern Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling for several years.  She had also worked at Excel in Beardstown and for the Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois in Mt. Sterling.  Earlier in life Virgie worked as a waitress and had also assisted the horseman at the local horse barns.  She was always known as a hard worker who set a wonderful example for her children to follow.  

Mrs. Pulse was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Sterling.  Virginia also enjoy working puzzles, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved watching and feeding the hummingbirds, listening to music, cooking and collecting recipe books. 

Survivors include 4 children Patty Henken (Buck) of Mt. Sterling, Peggy Huston of Camp Point, Illinois, Carolyn Pulse of Mt. Sterling and Steve Pulse (companion Rosie Butler) of Perry, Illinois.  2 sisters Norma Jean “Dee” Fagan of Tampa, Florida and Sandra McMasters of Northglenn, Colorado.  5 grandchildren Kristin and Patricia Davis, Hannah Pulse, Sarah Moore and Doug Bowen.  1 great granddaughter Taylor Peacock also survives. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter Pamela “Susie” Bowen, 1 son Michael Pulse, 2 grandsons Jeff Peacock and Butch Bowen, 4 brothers Robert, Ray, Dale and David Harvey and 4 sisters Eleanor Curfman, Rose Mary, Lora and Glenda Harvey. 

Cremation has been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 7, 2020 in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery with Pastor Matt Haberman officiating. 

Memorials are suggested to Brown County Against Cancer and may be left at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
