William F. “Hoppy” Boyd, age 80, formerly of Rushville, Springfield and Beardstown went to watch a ballgame in eternity at 12:36 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.
He was born July 23, 1938 the son of Paul Peter and Katherine Hill Boyd.
Hoppy graduated from Beardstown High School in 1956. He played baseball all 4 years.
He started his grocery career working in the meat department at Krogers in Beardstown. He worked for several different food chains, Superway, Super Valu and Krogers locally. After moving to Springfield, he worked at Walmart.
Hoppy loved playing ball and was known for his pitching. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Bill was a member of the former Cooperstown Christ Church.
Survivors include two sons William Scott Boyd (Kathy) of Mt. Sterling and Christopher Boyd (Cindy Grant) of Meredosia, Illinois. A former daughter-in-law Stacee Boyd of Ocala, Florida. 7 grandchildren Leland, Ryan, Haley, Rachel, Jacob, Joshua and Megan. 1 great grandchild Kamdyn Boyd. 1 sister Alice Elam (Robert) of Springfield. 1 brother Tom Floyd (Marilyn) of Chambersburg also survive along the several nieces and nephews and a special friend Dottie Boyd and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Jeffrey Boyd and 3 sisters Edna Mae Lewey, Nancy Briggs and Pamela VanHyning.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Jim Henry officiating.
Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
