Zelma Mae (Bowen) Lane, age 91 of Quincy, formerly of Mt. Sterling, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023.
Zelma was born December 13, 1931, in Leoti, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey Sr. and Mabel (Daniels) Bowen. She married Duane “Pete” Lane on July 3, 1953 in New Albany, Indiana.
She attended school in Brown County.
Zelma worked at a number of local places in Mt. Sterling throughout her life and ran her own coffee shop in Timewell. One of the jobs she loved the most was working in the cafeteria at Brown County Elementary School, serving food and smiles to the students of Brown County.
Zelma was known for her love of animals and her sassy and fun-loving nature. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spending winters in Texas.
Zelma spent the last 5 years as a resident of Bickford Cottages of Quincy where she truly gained a second family; the Bickford family.
Survivors include 2 children Julie Lane of Quincy, Illinois and Mark Lane of rural McDonough County, Illinois; 5 grandchildren Jamie Traeder (Jason), Jared Busen (Shira), Justin Busen (Sarah), Megan Junk (Tyler) and Paige Lane; 4 great grandchildren Calvin and Silas Traeder, Ethan Junk and Duke Lane; 1 brother Norman (Buster) Bowen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 1 sister Evelyn Whaley and 1 brother Junior Bowen.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 16 at Hendricker Funeral Home.
Zelma was laid to rest at the Mounds Cemetery near Timewell.
